Match Report

Medellin welcomed Newell's Old Boys to the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, eager to maintain their unbeaten record against their South American rivals.

A lively start from the visitors saw Medellin old boy Gareth Barry marauding through after just 6 minutes with his shot across the keeper striking the foot of post. With the hosts unable to settle, NOB got the goal their start deserved when on 14 minutes, Bou found Belluschi in the box who made no mistake with the finish, striking it handsomely beyond Bravo.

Undeterred, Medellin went to work, Aleix Garcia firing through the legs of Prodl but only managing to find the post 3 minutes beyond the restart. Come the 24th, Medellin were level, Mendy finding Balotelli who's effort was parried well by Beto but only into the path of Ambrose, who gleefully put it into the empty net.

With the scores looking level at halftime, disaster at the heart of the Argentinian defence as Prodl had a mare receiving a driven pass across goal, spilling it to the feet of Ambrose who's cheeky effort was saved well from Beto.

2nd half and with little occurring for the Colombians through the middle, their attentions were diverted out wide with Urretivascaya becoming an ever growing threat. With Garcia playing him in out wide, his cross found the in form Balotelli who nodded home his 10th in 3 games for the lead. In the 68th it was Urretivascaya again who was played in by Ambrose before finding the Stockport Iniesta at the far post. Whilst the header was on target, it was heartache for the visitors as Beto could only parry the attempt into his own net and with it securing all 3 points for the hosts.

Hard lines Berty as the performance was anything but a 3-1 victory. Fortune with the goals but one we'll gladly take so early into the season!

Good chat as always dude, all the best with the rest, i'm expecting a resurgent 2nd half to the season from the Argentinians! :w:

Confirmed.

Always great to chat with you Jakey. Great match report ! No question you deserved the victory in this one. Balotelli is a constant danger and with your right midfielder causing constant problems for me you created much better chances to get the win. Catch you in the second half of the season
