Insights: Ninja vs Joe

Written by

Game of the Week - Xbox Edition

This week featuring Ninjabean & Joe

1: How do you rate your opponent?

N: Joe has always been a tough opponent for myself. Very good player across the board. You look at his team on paper and you think he has a threadbare team with just a couple of decent players, but the other players are actually great for their rating. His defence is ageing but his attack is lethal, the Origi and Austin combo just works.

J:  I think Ninja said it better than I could, it's probably classed as a surprise that he's in the title race, but fair play to him. I think I've probably beaten him more than he's beaten me over the years, but our first game this season was very tough, I did get a lot of luck but got over the line and I'd take that again second time around

2: What are your expectations for the game?

N: If I can keep my unbeaten record going I'll be happy. The first game finished 4-2 to Joe, but in all honesty the game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested. I've since added to my team, especially at the back with the arrival of a Fabianski, who can actually catch a ball and Diego Reyes to partner the beast that is Issa Diop, so I'm hoping that those additions will keep Austin and Origi quiet. If not I just hope my new attack will help me, a front 3 of Poulsen, Martinez and Montero, should cause some worry for Joe's ageing defenders.

J: I've been playing very well lately, I had a 9 game streak going which was broken by Tiernobyl who I just can't beat, but my confidence is still high so I'll be hoping for a win. One way I can't see it going is a draw, I've had none so far from 13 games and the way I play tends to see me either score plenty of concede plenty

3: How is your season going so far?

N: A lot better than expected, I'm unbeaten in 9 games and only lost 1 this season (which was to Joe). I just need to turn a few of the draws into wins to pull clear of the pack. Everyone expected me to be battling relegation, including myself, so to be where I am right now i'm buzzing.

J: I had an awful start, lost my first 4 some of which I really should have won, and then went on a run of 9 wins which got me to the top of the table, some of which I probably should have lost really

4: Who are your key players?

N: Poulsen, Ki and Diop. Poulsen is so underrated, I paid a lot for his services as I knew what damage he could cause and a lot of people are aware of that due to the copious amounts of PM's I get regarding him. Ki is just outstanding in the middle of the park as well, pings the ball around for fun and pops up to score every now and then too. Diop is just phenomenal too at CB, big, strong and fast, without him I could easily say that I would be down the bottom end of the table.

J: Charlie Austin obviously, he gets a lot of stick and has had zero interest when I've put him up for sale, but he's absolutely brilliant in the game, good in the air, strong and has a powerful shot on him, he's the leagues top scorer as it stands. Further back my 2 pre season signings in Berezutskiy and Gonul have tightened things up for me after conceding so many last season, both bring a bit of class to what was a poor back 4

5: Are either of you hopeful of taking the Championship from GoldenBread?

N: There are some great players battling it out at the top, it's certainly been a more competitive than in recent years. If I do manage to take  the title, great, if not I won't be too disheartened.

J: Not particularly, it is so close this year that whoever wins it is going to need to go on a consistent run of wins at the right time and I don't think I'm good enough to do that over the rest of the season

6: Who is the best player you have got in for this season and is there one you wouldn’t want to let leave?

N: As mentioned above, it would be a tossup between Poulsen and Diop. One is a danger going forward and one is a beast at the back. it will take something special for me to let either of these go.

J: Best signing was Berezutskiy. He's old and not really worth anything now, but as a pure CB he's brilliant at being in the right place at the right time and winning the ball which was exactly what I needed. Unsurprisingly the players I wouldn't let go are my Liverpool players, I enjoy Mo's seethe too much

Thanks again lads for a good, in depth interview. Good Luck.
