Medellin welcomed their close rivals Blackburn to the Estadio Atanasio Girardot and ran out as surprising 3-0 winners!

A slow start from the hosts saw them fail to keep possession and with it, Blackburn carved out the opening opportunity after 5 minutes with Ze Luis only able to drag his effort wide. With pretty much their 1st venture into the opponents half after what was a dire opening 10 minutes, the Italian connection worked their familiar magic with Paloschi playing through Pirlo who dinked one over for Pazzini to slide home the opener.

A succession of heroic blocks and last ditch tackles & a lack of composure from the Blackburn front men kept the visitors at bay for the remainder of the half with Medellin counting themselves pretty fortunate to still be in the lead.

2nd half and it didn't take long to make the visitors rue their missed opportunities, after 48 minutes a trademark Medellin cross from Rojas saw Pazzini run into acres of space and volley one through the keeper for 2-0. Again, it was Medellin's resilience at the back that kept the score at 2-0, that was until the 82nd in what could have been the big turning point of the match. A sloppy tackle from Insua handed Blackburn the opportunity to level from the spot, only for Howard to save well to his left to parry the effort wide. Following another save from the resulting corner, Medellin squandered the chance to kill the game off as another cross met the head of Paloschi, who could only see his effort hit the post.

Come the 90th and with the game all but won, Pazzini's clever back heel allowed Illarramendi to break free and give the scoreline a somewhat flattering look. But the Colombians will take such flattery!

Hard lines Woody, was pegged back for long periods and somehow countered my way to 3 goals.

Good craic as always dude, all the best with the rest!
